'Poppy' - The Much Loved Moggy Minor
"...Advertising material repetitively used the adjective 'supreme'... The Minor... was a distinct departure in design and engineering for the Cowley based company... and it provided further confirmation of the brilliance of Alex Issigonis who would later compound the achievement
with the Mini. Both cars would in time attract cult status."
Classic Motor Magazine – June 1996
Club Call by Peter Cahill
Okay so the Minor is not exactly a sportscar but it's oh so British! Utterly charming and dependable the Morris Minor has a huge following akin to the VW Beetle. A real people's car it cannot help but bring a smile to everyone's face.
Designed by Alec Issigonis the Minor is a British design classic from the man who would later bring us the 'original' BMC Mini. It's charming curves and cheeky approachable looks make it a cuddlier classic than many more expensive cars. And with four seats its something all the family can enjoy together.
Launched at The Earls Court Motor Show in 1948 as the oddly named 'Mosquito', the car quickly endeared itself to the British public in early split screen, side-valve mode. This car however dates from 1965 and benefits from a 998 cc Midget engine upgrade and improved front brakes. Its rack and pinion steering and torsion bar independent suspension provides the driver with admirable handling and ride for a family British car from this era. Named 'Poppy' this car is quite charming - an excellent example of one of the best loved and practical classic British cars ever produced.
For any Moggy Minor fan this could be the perfect birthday gift idea for 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th or 70th celebrations as well as honeymoons, anniversaries and other special breaks in Cornwall and Devon.
